August 30, 2016. One of the worst days of my life. A good friend from childhood, Layla (name is changed to protect privacy) lit up the room when she walked into it. Her joyous demeanor and infectious laughter made her an easy person to like, and moreover a great friend. She was always smart and made good decisions- I never thought that she would have an addiction that would eventually take her young life. She was only 19 when she passed in August. She was an alcoholic. I think that as something that is legal and glorified in the media, that many people think underage drinking is “okay”. It is not. It is a terrifying addiction that leads to a dark, dangerous path of destruction. Please, educate yourselves and your children about this. Losing her was one of the most traumatic moments of my young life, and I never want anyone to have to experience that.
